Honestly, some days I dont even feel safe walking around my own neighborhood. Dogs charge at me all of the time.
I need something that will deter them completely. Im not talking about a whistle used for training your dog to stop barking; I need something that can be used as self defense against a dangerous and attacking dog. I dont care if it harms the dog or causes serious damage (its my safety over theirs).
Pepper spray has been suggested, but im worried about not being able to aim with enough accuracy given that a dog can charge at me pretty fast. Do ultrasonic devices like the dazer 2 work for repelling aggressive dogs?
If military grade dog repellent exists, then thats what I want! What do police and postal service workers use?
By the way, dont bother suggesting therapy or revising my ethics towards the treatment of attacking dogs (if a dog attacks me, it is NOT innocent). I will not even consider these suggestions.
sure, I will just call animal control as im being mauled by a dog. No. You see by the time I discover a dog that is going to attack me, animal control or law enforcement cant respond fast enough. I need to defend myself.
Again, I dont care if the dog is aggressive by nature or by the way he was trained nor do I care about how he got off his leash in the first place. Once I am being attacked, its basic survival instincts, its kill or be killed (I dont necessarily need to kill the attacking dog, its just an expression)

Oh also, I dont like the idea of hitting the dog and relying on the force of the blow. In my experience swinging or even just carrying such a weapon can be perceived by the dog as being more threatening, making it more likely to attack.
Im living in a basement suite and the owners live on the top floor. There is a large backyard and they have a dog that roams around freely. Well in the last two months the dog has attacked us several times going into and out of our place( the door to get in is through the yard). I’m frightened of this dog and am actually growing a fear of all dog because of this one. If i buy a dog repellent spray and spray it in their yard (which is also mine to get into my place) and the dog somehow gets hurt would i be liable for anything that happens to it as I would be only using it for self defense. I feel like they are not providing a safe living environment for me. would be able to leave without a 30 day notice and still receive my deposit back?
I am getting into the habit of jogging in order to lose weight. The problem is a lot of people leave their dogs unleashed in my neighborhood. I know if I cease movement, they will cease chasing me, but this is not always the case. Today I almost got mauled, but I was carrying pepper spray and I used it to avert the canine’s attack successfully. This got me wondering about what other methods for self defense against dog attacks when I go for a jog?
I know there is the ultrasonic repellent. I know there is pepper and OC spray. I also know there is taser. What other methods are out there? Which one is the best or should it be a combination? What should I look for when I shop for dog repellent in order to get the best quality and what a good place to shop?
Also, what ones carry the least amount of legal restrictions in the US?
Rather not use a firearm. Shooting my neighbor’s dog is a sure way to get on their bad side. Plus I rather not hurt the dog chasing me, just have a means to defend myself if I have to with as little harm as possible.
I am not going around "abusing animals".
I go around minding my own business. It is sometimes necessary to defend my self. Hell, I had to do so today, so advice (not harassment) would be appreciated. Thank you.
I’m applying at the post office for a job.
I apologize if I scared anyone with my question. I would never hurt an animal on purpose. I was referring to self-defense. I live in USA and evidently they provide the mailmen with sprays for violent dogs.
I am not allowed in my state of Missouri to carry any weapon for self defense against roaming dogs or wild animals. Is it legal in Missouri to carry and use dog repellent spray, and does it work?
Skyline USA, official distributors of Guard Dog Security products, gave away hundreds of free pepper spray to the people of Downtown Orlando. This was in light of the deadly shooting which occurred in the Gateway Building on November 6, 2009 where Jason Rodriguez shot 6 and killed 1. The event on November 12, 2009, dubbed Guard Dog Security in Orlando, aimed at helping the locals feel a greater sense of security after the shootings which led people nervous and shaken up. Yasir Sheikh, managing partner of Skyline USA in Winter Springs, described the 3 goals of the event: 1. Bring a heightened sense of security to the people of Orlando 2. Raise awareness that more locals would be prepared for any violence 3. Prevent violent crime before it happens The pepper sprays are non-lethal and are legal to carry in the state of Florida and in many parts of the United States. Guard Dog pepper sprays contain 18% OC (red pepper), a UV identifying dye, and an optional CS military tear gas. The sprays handed out included key rings to make them easily accessible. As effective as pepper sprays are, they cannot stop bullets. We only hope that they can stop criminal behavior before it happens. Please read directions and instructions carefully before use and check your local and state laws.
