my neighbor is spraying our dogs through our fence with something that smells like vanilla, can she do that?

dog repellent spray

We don’t know what she is spraying them with, but we do know that is smells like vanilla, and makes there coat matted, but not sticky. I have read that vanilla can be used as an insect repellent, but we think that she is using some sort of dog repellent that maybe she made herself. We have actually witnessed her spraying our dogs, and when asked she doesn’t know what we are talking about. I don’t think that it is legal for her to really spray anything through our fence at our dogs, but when I called around to verify this I was told to call another number which told me to call another number, so on and so on. We are mostly concerned about the health of our pets, and my sister who is pregnant. We do keep them fenced in, and make sure that they are not barking at an unreasonable hour.

is there anything out there that she could have made? also is it legal for her to do that?

I think that before she sprays anything on your dogs, she has to ask you first. Very suspicious of her to act that way!
Anyways I don’t think vanilla is going to do any harm. THere are shampoos made of vanilla for dogs:http://www.nextag.com/vanilla-dog-shampoo/compare-html?nxtg=100d0a280506-5675E41333DD69E6

Take a video of it. Contact the police. Show them the video. She could very well be charged with abuse.

If your dogs are in YOUR yard and are not a nuisance she has no right.

I don’t know what she is spraying on your dogs but I do believe if I saw it happening with my dogs I would douse the b**** with my garden hose.

The fact she won’t talk about it is enough for me to retaliate.

keep your dogs inside unless you are outside and can supervise them. No dog should be left outside unattended fence or not as you never know what might happen to them. She can spray anything she wants on her side of the fence.

in my book, i’d be jumping the fence beating her azz! but, it sounds to me like she is trying to poison them, with the scent of vanilla. is she into aromatherapy? if so this can explain alot.

No she can’t do that. Video tape her doing it and then call the police. That should be enough to stop her.

you need to find out what it is she is spraying while i am sure it isn’t illegal to spray stuff through a fence
if what she is spraying is harmful too your dogs or you it is very illegal and since you witnessed this and didn’t report it
    who knows what could happen

I dont think it’s legal. You should bring your dogs inside if you see the person come out.

I would call the aspca and see if they can maybe go and talk to her. They will give her a citation if she does not stop and then a warrant.

i would have the right mind to march over to her door and tell her to knock that sh*t off.she has no right to be doing crap like that.there on YOUR side of the fence on YOUR property they are NOT being a nuicence, they are NOT her dogs, and YOU dont know what she is putting on ur dogs.you have the right to call the police.but before you do so, get evedince, like vidio her doing it, or sumthing. this is what you should do in THAT order

    1.Vidio her in the act
2.Tell her to knock the sh*t off
    3.call the police
    4.talk to her landlord
    5.take the matter to court

i hope i helped, but DO NOT call the police unless you can prove she did it.you can sue her for animal abuse.who knows what that is?

i would video tape it then take your dogs to the groomer get a statement from the groomer n take her to court n sue her for groomer bill.that might make her think twice about doing it again but make sure you video tape her doing it.

It’s OK to contact the police (or the appropriate authority) to make a complaint, even without evidence. That’s because a pattern that will be used by the court to make decisions (like compensation, for example) when you DO have enough hard evidence (like photos) for them to prosecute. So do file a complaint, but don’t expect them to prosecute, and also do the other things that people have suggested.

If she were intentionally spraying your kids with something, whether its thru the fence or not, it would be considered abuse. Spraying your dogs, its still abuse, call the local spca and file a complaint. She will deny it to them but she will also be put on notice that what she is doing is illegal, and if she continues the offense faces legal action
