I saw on the P. Allen Smith Gardening Show that I can "Make your own" pepper spray to mist my philodendron to keep my dog from chewing the hanging tendrils. I know they can be bought commercially at pet places or Walmart,….but why buy when making at home is always easier and surely CHEAPER . Does anyone know how to "Make" a homemade pepper spray…..(not to be confused with the stuff you keep in your purse to defend yourself against attackers). Hope some gardener or pet person can help me. I ride on mountain bike and always have problems with dogs. I can avoid one dog, but I usually find 2, 3 or more dogs together and you know what happens. Can pepper spray/paralyzer cause permanent problems to dogs (eyes)?
They attack. But any other way can help.

My dog was recently sprayed with pepper spray by the local police officers in my city. He did not attempt to attack them. We were in a park when they approached us and I had fallen asleep doing my homework a few of my friends were sitting in somewhat close proximity and they were awake. My dog got very close to me and growled at them and we both got sprayed with pepper spray……a amazing way to wake up if you ask me. So my question is are there going to be any ill effects on my dog?? My friend took us home and we washed him with baby shampoo but I think some may have gotten in his nose and ears. I am very worried please help
I would file a complaint but I’m just happy they didn’t shoot him. The cops in my area are known for shooting dogs. Also if I do file a complaint I would probably have to move. The cops don’t take that well here and the amount of harassment would be unreal
I fell asleep because I felt safe with my friends sitting by me. It all happened very quickly. They were keeping a eye on us and his leash was tied to my leg.
@Mexicano I would file a complaint if I felt safe doing so because A. He was infact leashed! B. He growled at them for getting close to me C. They didn’t even try saying anything to wake me up. and D. DID I MENTION THE DOG WAS LEASHED?
this question isn’t about pitty for the police officers who pepper sprayed my dog and ME all I want know about is if he can have respiratory issues from it

I have been walking my 3 dogs and normally when I walk I am alone. I also have my 2 kids and a neighbor kid with me when we go. I am scared I am going to run into a loose dog or someone will let their dog out as I am passing (has happened) so I stay on my road and walk it 3 or so times but I would like to branch out so what if anything do u bring with you when you walk. I thought of buying the spray made for dogs but can i be sued for vet bills if I use it on a dog going after one of my dogs or kids.

Also, if it gets into my dogs or kids eyes in the process is it dangerous or will it wear off.

Thanks and the reason I am paranoid is when my daughter was a baby a dog was circling us growling trying to get at my daughter. Thankfully the owners were not that far behind.
There are tons of people around me that do not have fences that let the dogs out to pee

okay so a cop came into our yard and he pepper sprayed my dog. (i’m 14). he was looking for my dad but he was out. my sister talked to him about pepper spraying my dog and he laughed and said she’ll (my dog) be happier now. My sis washed my dogs face off but she was hiding after. My dog seemed scared and i’m not sure if she will do it again!!! i mean she is ment to be a guard dog and now i don’t know if she will anymore. I’m also upset. My dog normally isn’t that bad, i mean she trys to bite ankles but not like jump and and bite your face off. she isn’t even that big of a dog.

Okay so, the person behind us has a dog who is constantly ramming into the fence that separates our yards, and my dad threatened to spray the dog with pepper spray if he continues. Thing is, we’ve never even confronted the people to tell them that they need to stop their dog. If he DOES decide to attempt to stop the dog, would pepper spray be a horrible idea? I’m worried we could get in trouble. Should we, instead, spray him with cold water or something to repel him?
Okay, I understand that I should talk to them. MY QUESTION WAS that would pepper spray hurt the dog, and could we get in trouble? Would cold water be a good alternative or would that further anger the dog?

I go on walks often, and I live outside of city limits, so people are NOT required to put their dogs on a leash. A few houses down from my house, where I walk every day, there’re 2 dogs that are visciousc. One put his teeth around my leg once, but didn’t clamp down hard. They always chase me, to the point of where I have to get on the extreme opposite of the road (into another person’s yard) to avoid being bit. I’m 15, and my dad has decided to get either dog-pepper spray, or a dog whistle to ward them off. Which would be more effective?

In my neighborhood everybody has a dog & nobody has a leash.

Owners walk in the streets with their dogs without a leash & I have been bitten on several occasions! The owners don’t even say "Sorry"!

i go jogging every morning in a forest trail. im considering changing my trail because bodies have been found in the area before but otherwise it is beautiful to be surrounded by the nature. pepper spray and tazers and illegal in my area so i was wondering how effective is dog spray if i were to be attacked by a human?

I was just wondering because I was walking with my friend to her house and she was talking to me about how there’s this mailman who pepper sprays dogs in the neighborhood and she says they don’t bite or scratch the mailman, just bark at him like crazy,eh. So is this illegal?
